To often we’re looking at life straight on, one side.
Looking at what we see in others, in how they’re living, acting, showing up,
And how, what they do, lands on us.
Very rarely do we take a 360 walk around to see all sides of the coin. Not just this side & that side, but from all angles.
Many don’t care to look.
Yet to look, is to try and understand.
Understanding doesn’t mean you have to tolerate BS or have that in your life, but it does give you another view.
When we look at things straight on, as we see things in that moment,
We’re missing so much about that person and we’re only looking at it from our own experiences. Yet there’s a lifetime of experiences that brings us all to this moment.
Experiences that shape a person.
Experiences that shape each and every single one of us.
And here’s the other part of this…
We look at how others are showing up to us, to life,
Yet many refuse to look at how they’re showing up to others & life.
Many have different rules for others than they do for themselves.
So I always say – flip the coin.
If how you’re showing up (maybe quietly, behind the scene or out in the open) to others,
Would you tolerate others showing up to you in the same way.
If the answer is no…then there’s room for change here.
You always get to flip the coin, giving you a chance to make things right.
There’s that saying
“Treat others how you wish to be treated”
Yet I’ve experienced, I’ve witnessed, I’ve ignored myself,
That we can use that saying lightly, wishy-washy, when it suits us.
When we do that, we only cause un-necessary pain to ourselves & others.
We have to keep practicing showing up in the way we wish to show up in this world and with the people around us.
Not to only gain something from it.
Or how it will make us look or feel,
But because it’s the person you genuinely wish to be, which is being in integrity with yourself first.
To be the partner you wish to be,
To be the parent you wish to be,
To be the friend you wish to be,
No matter what you gain in return,
And simply knowing that when you show up in the way that’s in integrity to yourself & to others,
With no strategy, no moulding, no manipulation for looks or gains,
You will soon learn who enjoys, appreciates, loves you for you…and who doesn’t.
We all get to flip the coin to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves & of others.
No one is ever who they are when you only choose to see them straight on.
