We have only just reached March and already I’ve had news of many people passing. Some who I know personally & others not at all.
It’s a constant reminder to remember to tell those who are close to you that you love them, that you appreciate them, that you care for them.
It’s something that many people find hard – to express themselves to those that are close to them.
I know I do at times. But like everything it does get easier.
So tonight I’d like to share something with you all that I found on Pinterest, that may help you share great things with those you love & care for.
When my Dad turned 65, we wondered what on earth to get him… socks & jocks weren’t going to cut it this year. He is a man of very few words and doesn’t ask for much…if anything, but we (my sisters and I) knew we didn’t want this year to pass with nothing.
So with 3 weeks until his birthday, I sent out and called many of his friends from past & present and asked them all to write a message, a memory, a bloody good story to Dad.
You should have seen the stories that were told – they made me laugh & cry or both at the same time.
On his birthday we popped them on the table next to him and said Happy Birthday.
‘What the bloody hell is this’ he said.
‘Your birthday present’ I replied.
He opened one, read it…then stopped. Took 5 min, then continued to open and read each one until he got through them all.
Like I said, he is a man of few words – he said ‘Thank you’ at the end.
But I could tell, it was one of the best presents he had ever received – it touched him, in a good way.
I have since shared this idea with a mum at school and she said her Dad also thought it was the best present ever.
So don’t wait until someone has passed to share how much they mean to you. Let them know now. It will make their day, month & year.
