Last night was a one of those nights when I was up and down like a yoyo. My daughter gets growing pains every now and then, which usually means there are many hours laying there awake rubbing her legs to help ease the pain. I often spend this blurry state of awakeness thinking about photography & business and I realised many of you have no idea who I am, so this morning thought I would share a little bit about me…and if I am lucky enough to photograph you sometime in the near future, you will a least feel you know me a little better. So here’s a little glimpse into my crazy life, what tickles me fancy and anything else that pops into my head…

First off…I’m Charmaine Marinkovich, but you can all call me Char.  I’m a mum to four beautiful, crazy babes ranging from 17 years to 17 months, a wife to Mr Page (yes he’s a school teacher) and a portrait photographer.

I LOVE to dress up, however that doesn’t happen very often. Most days are so crazy getting everyone else ready that I only have time for a quick shower, throw on my trusty jeans and a top, twist my hair into a messy bun (that has been with me for over 20 years now) and out the door.  When I do have a chance to go out or I’m getting ready for a photoshoot, then I make sure I have enough time to enjoy putting my make up on, changing a number of times to find the right thing to wear and spray on my fav perfume ‘Coco Chanel’. I wish I could dress up everyday and I suppose I could, but to be honest, dressing up when I’m just going to be sitting behind my computer all day at my desk or as I am now, on the couch, just seems like a waste.

If I could eat Thai everyday, I would. I am a real foodie – love to eat but hate to cook. I’m probably the only female in my family that isn’t very good in the kitchen. Lucky for me my hubby likes to cook so we tend to try some different things every now and then. Give me a personal chef and I’d be the happiest girl ever. When I first met my husband in 2008, every night I would get up and have a midnight snack. It became the joke in his family when we went for dinner….’make sure you leave some food for Chars midnight feast’. Food just tastes that much better at that time of night, won’t you agree… I have since broken that habit and I must say my waistline is a little happier for it.

My favourite animal is a horse. We had a couple when I was growing up and everyday after school I would take our horse, Fleur Petite (which means, little flower), for a ride. I can still remember how free it felt when riding through the paddocks. Her smell, the speed….oh how I would love a horse right now.  They are one of the most beautiful creatures – so strong yet so elegant. Ha just like a woman (wink).

When the music is on, I can’t help but break out little dance moves or sing along. When it was just my daughter and I, we made up a dance routine and would do it most weekends in the lounge using the window as our mirror – something she still remembers and talks about. My little ones love me picking them up and dancing with them now too. I’m no dancer that’s for sure but shaking my bootie sure makes me happy. My mum has a love of dancing, so I guess that’s where I get it from, however she has more rhythm than me thats for sure.

I’m a bit of a hippie at heart…I’ve always dreamed of owning a combi van and travelling around New Zealand camping out. Maybe I will save that one for retirement. I love sitting by a bonfire and watching the kids melt marshmallows and I believe in listening and trust in what my body is telling me, so much so that I was delighted to be able to give birth at home with two of my babies.

Exercise makes me feel good about myself. For the past six months, I’ve been getting up at crazy hour and heading off to bootcamp. It starts my day off well and gives me the energy I need to get through my days.  I enjoy running…none of this long distance silliness, but a nice 5km run clears my head. I did however stop once winter hit as I’m scared of the dark (yeap, the dark scares the bejesus outta me).

I have a few crazy OCD tendencies, like needing to use a new knife with every spread, new cup each time, must wipe the table in straight long strokes and I always have to dry my face in the shower before I turn the shower off – haha call me crazy but I’m sure everyone has a few crazy things they do…

Do you have any crazy OCD traits? And what kind of things do you love to do?

Let me know by leaving a comment below.

Hugs & Smiles to you.
